“aliens”

We learned about the japanese camps and how americans hated the japanese during the war in 1940s. They called them aliens and made them seem like they were from a different universe. They never even did anything wrong in America, yet the ones that were trying to help were still bunched in with all the bad ones in Japan. We talked about how degrading it was to call people “aliens”, yet they still do it today!

“Illegal Alien Amnesty Already Happening” was an article in FOX news on july 29. Howcome it was so bad to call people aliens back then, but its fine to do it now? Hasnt anyone learned that it is rude and makes people sound like a weird thing from mars. I would no because im from Canada, and im refered to as an “alien” and even the term illegal immigrant sounds bad.. It makes it sound like we arent welcome in America.

How can America hate immigrants so much that they dont want to be able to move here and live our lifes just like American born citizens. Obama is trying to help immigrants, yet americans are shutting down any hope in seeing the light. They dont want us to work here .. they dont want us to be able to get help to go to school here.. they want us deported basically. Isnt that almost like racism or sexism? They want to stick to the mold of an all american society, just as white supremicists only want whites to exist. America would be a very boring country without all the interesting people and new things brought here from immigrants.

riot in l.a – police abuse thier power

On wednesday there was supposed to be a free concert by a big dj in hollywood. Obviously hundreds of people showed up, even from san diego, just to see him perform. Nobody meant any harm, but they were crowding the streets and there was too many people. Thus, the police came. Thats fine- but showing up in riot gear? Why would they think they need to shoot bean bags at people to get them to cooperate? Police just angered the crowd more, so they reacted badly! I saw a clip of a lady trying to get to her car so the cop grabed her arm, so she threw a punch and the cop punched her back, and three cops jumped on her! THEY WERE ALL MALE COPS AND A SMALL WOMAN! i couldnt believe my eyes..The funniest thing is that the cops made all the videos of the riot get taken down .. hmm wonder why!

Police brutallity is very common, which is why i dislike them sooo much. I cant even count how many times ive watched the news and seen a story of police abusing thier power. There was a story i remember about a woman handcuffed and a man holding her down and they ripped off all her clothes. It was caught on camera that they forcibly had her naked with male cops watching, which is AGAINST THE LAW!!!!!! The lady is screaming and saying stop.. this video makes me so angry with cops, i hate those a**holes.. all they do is use the most force they can because they no they can get away with it!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgixrRZ-Avg&feature=related <— VIDEO OF IT

This reminds me of the rodney king beating, which made me hate cops for the rest of my life. I couldnt believe how much hatred they took out on him.. he didnt do anything to them, and yet they beat the crap out of him because he was black. And whats even worse is that the evidence was there and they got away with it.. why? BECAUSE THEY WERE COPS AND WHITE COPS, and he was black. Cops seem to love to hurt people and abuse thier powers – which is disgusting.

#10 sex sells

Our society has become so revolved around sexual images, that so many of the ads and shows on tv are very sexual. I found that in most of my magazines there were sexual inuendos in alot of the pictures/ads. Even on TV they try to playfully include sex in their ads. Maybe with all the new things in our world people are bored with bland images and need to be excited with these dramatic images. Its definatly a change from the 1920′s! I found a few images online of extreme sexual ads..

1. A Puma shoe ad: This ad on inventorspot.com shows a girl on her knees, and a guy around the level of her mouth.. This ad DEFINATLY more than hints at something very very very sexual! My jaw hit the floor when i saw this ad.. i cant believe a big company like Puma would risk putting something so controversial in thier ad.  SHE EVEN HAS SEMEN ON HER LEG!!!  I’m pretty sure if a parent saw this they wouldnt want thier kids wearing pumas.. or even if someone very conservative saw this, they wouldnt want to wear them. I am actually so shocked over this ad!

 2. Mens Lynx body wash: This ad on inventorspot.com shows a women in a nude bikini, dirty and oily with “wash me” written on her. This image is so sexualized! Of course men are going to see this and get.. excited. They use a womens body to sell something for men.. how degrading!! Obviously women isnt thier target audience, so they dont care if a women would be mad at this because thier not losing them as buyers. Maybe men think if they buy this they’ll have a sexy girl to wash…

3. D&G clothes ads: UMM WTF!… is all i can say! So basically this ad shows 4 guys looking like thier about to gang rape this poor girl. The one guy is holding her down by her arms.. which looks very dominating on the mans part. Even the look on her face does not look happy. These men look scary.. like thier going to hurt her.. which maybe turns freaky people on. This is very controversial and puts men and women both in a bad light.

#9 women in power

Throughout this class we have learned about the struggles of women in power positions. In the early 1900s it wasnt common at all for women to hold jobs or even big manager jobs. Women had this idea that they were supposed to be a wife and do household duties. Even when they were bored of it they still didnt think they were good enough. And all the stories we have read in our reader must have not helped women of that time AT ALL!! The articles put down women saying thier not good enough or smart enough. Even the video we watched made it seem like love would get in the way or work, which is not true at all!

I think there are many more women now who hold major positions in a business but its still more common for a man to be the big CEO or owner. Maybe women still think they can’t do it? Maybe they still think thier job is to be a wife and a mother. I think women have it hard when they have kids because they have the tough decision of keeping a job or staying with thier young baby.. and of course most mothers would want to be around for thier kids when thier that young. I myself even am dreading that point when im married and have a kid because i no 100% that i wouldnt be able to just get a nanny for my child.. i would have to be there for them and watch them grow and make sure thier safe.

I’ve seen some shows showing women in power. Tyra Banks, Oprah, and even Patty Stanger who is the CEO of Millionaires Club on bravo. These women are very independent, strong, and opinionated. They do what it takes to get where they need to be. They all seem to not have let a man determine thier path in life, which obviously has paid off. It probably is still hard for people to see women in power, but it needs to happen! I feel like one small mistake that a women makes will bring her down 10 times more than if  a man did it. There needs to be more equality in businesses!!

#8 the cost of death?

On fox news there was a report about the massive train crash in chatsworth, and how the families will recieve money for thier loss. The train crash happened because the driver was texting. The train collided into another train, so he could have killed way more people.  This was said to be one of the most deadliest train accidents- he killed at least 25 people and injured 130 people. Some have lived, and one person has severe brain damage now.

Now the state is talking about giving money to the families. The problem? How much is enough money to compensate for a families loss and the death of thier loved one? The state is giving 200 million to divide up to all the families. Some families are only recieving $12,000 if they had someone who “walked away”, while families who lost someone are recieving about 1.2 million. One girl who had 3rd degree burns and has to get part of her brain taken out is recieving the highest amount of 9 million, according to the L.A times.

Many of the families are complaning that what their getting is not enough. Medical bills, funerals, emotional tolls, etc., are all being taken into account. How can you put a price on something like this? You really can’t. And i understand and feel sorry that the government is giving out so much money and people are still bitching. Im not saying that the families are wrong for being mad, but its not really the governments fault right? It’s that morons fault for ruining all those lives.. so why should the government take the blame?

#7 Teen mom

There is a show on MTV called teen mom, where teens as young as 15 are having a baby. This show shows them as thier going through thier pregnancy and after having the baby along with the struggles. Most of these girls really believe thier boyfriends will stay with them after the babies born.. which almost always turns out to not be the case! We usually see the boyfriend, whose also very very young acting immature. One of the girls said how her boyfriend doesnt take responsibility for the baby.. DUH HES A CHILD HIMSELF! How can anybody expect a boy that young to want to give up his life to take care of a baby!?

I have heard concerns about this show, but also some praise. People i think are concerned that this show is bad to be on TV because it makes young girls want to have babies. Maybe thats why there has been so many seasons because more and more young girls think its okay. Maybe the girls just want to be on a show, so they get pregnant… very stupid if you ask me. However i can see some good come from this show. HOPEFULLY young girls see the struggles these teen moms go through and wont want that same life. HOPEFULLY they see how you have to give up everything to be a mom, and wouldnt want to do that.

I feel bad in a sense for these girls. We see them try to go through school and stuggle financially, and definatly struggle emotionally. I like that the girls are very different from eachother so we see teen moms who have alot of help and do work out, then we see teen moms who are probably going to have a very crappy life because of thier decisions. For example that one girl Amber from the first season who had an abusive relationship with her boyfriend Gary. They would openly fight on camera in front of thier kid- she punched her boyfriend on camera. She ended up getting more fame for doing that by getting into magazines. I keep seeing these teen moms lives all over the magazines.. so i definatly do think they just want fame mostly which sucks for their baby. I no some young parents can be good parents, but i just cant help but to feel bad for these kids.

#6 Japanese holocost

So in class we are discussing the japanese/american war in WWII. Im going to sound very ignorant (maybe its because im not american), but i never knew that japanese-americans were sent to camps during the war. Americans treated them like they were animals, posting signs up saying that japs were the enemy. Most of these american born japanese people were trying to show how they wanted to support americans, but america wasnt hearing it. I am so shocked that they could make them give up thier buisness, homes, and property to get bussed off to basically a concentration camp.

Reading the old newspapers from our reader made me so sad. The SF Chronicle degraded these japanese people but calling them aliens and making it seem like they were doing something bad. I can understand a little bit that America was worried that japanese people would want to help thier own people, but Americans were being very harsh about it. You cant just put everybody into the same category- just because one japanese person is bad doesnt mean they all are. The Rafu Shimpo even prooved how much the american born japanese people wanted to stand by thier fellow americans, stating that they would die for them in war. However, americans were against even letting them fight.

The camps the japanese were put into were horrific. We saw pictures/video of the poor conditions they were put into. It was cold, sometimes they didnt eat, sometimes there wasnt water, they had to walk to a shared bathroom, etc. These people were treated like they were doing something bad, which wasnt even the case! What shocked me the most was that American newspapers were saying that these japanese people were like the Germans. Its ironic because i feel like Americans were being like the Germans, like when Hitler put Jews in the concentration camps because he felt negatively towards them. Isn’t that bascially what america did???
